Oral Hygiene
Both natural teeth and teeth with restorations survive best in an oral environment that is clean and where the intake of harmful foods is controlled.
We help you prevent new cavities, preserve teeth that have been restored and manage periodontal disease.
We also provide you with oral hygiene instructions during your initial consultation.
Following are some helpful recomendations from the ADA (American Dental Association):
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day in a circular motion with a soft bristled toothbrush aimed at the gum.
- Replace your toothbrush every three or four months. or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
- Floss every night in an up and down motion while keeping the floss in a U-shape and against the tooth surface. Decay causing bacteria still linger between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. This helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.
- Avoid smoking.
- Avoid sticky sugary foods.
- Eat a balanced diet.
- Use of antimicrobial mouth rinses and toothpastes reduce the bacterial count and inhibit bacterial activity in dental plaque, which can cause gingivitis.
- Visit your dentist regularly for professioanl cleaning and oral exams.
